Today’s interview is with a lively and cheerful couple, Jessie and Jason from The Emerics. They work side by side and have tremendous passion for what they do. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing photos and of course, your time, with us today!
1. Tell us a bit about yourself and your company
We are Jessie & Jason, a husband & wife photography team. We love to photograph fun happy couples in love. We are based out of fabulous Las Vegas, NV but we’re also available worldwide because you just never know where your love might take you. When we aren’t photographing weddings and engagements, you will definitely find us playing with our two kiddos, ages 7 & 3! We love exploring new places with them, going on family vacations and road trips.

2. How did you get into wedding photography?
I (Jessie) have had a love for photography since high school. I was pursuing my photography part-time mostly doing family portraits of friends and acquaintances, when one of those friends referred me to a friend who’s daughter was getting married in 2001. I’d never photographed a wedding before, but I was hooked after that first one and began focusing on weddings more and more and doing less family portraits when I took by business full-time in 2005. Jason started going to weddings with me as my film loader/assistant then began doing some shooting of his own when I made the switch to digital in 2005. He kept practicing and sharpening his craft until he became more than a 2nd shooter, he became a partner and we shoot all our weddings together! It’s the best!
3. What is your favorite part of the wedding day to capture?
Jason and I love being there for the entire day and each moment and each part of the day is special, but our favorite moment would have to be the first look. There is nothing more beautiful than when a groom sees his bride for the first time. We love the intimacy of the moment and the raw emotions you can only get during that time. I get goosebumps just thinking about it!
4. What is the most awkward moment you’ve experienced while on the job?
Hmmm….I would have to say holding a bride’s dress up while she pees has got to be the most awkward!
5. What’s the best thing you ever ate at a wedding?
We get fed pretty well at all our weddings, but the best would have to be the herb crusted sea bass from Tableau at the Wynn Hotel at Monica & David’s wedding last year. YUM :)
6. What is your favorite venue and why?
Our favorite venue is Red Rock Country Club for sure. First of all, the location is beautiful. There are so many different and pretty photo spots to choose from and that helps keep things fresh and new for us and our couples. Gina is the wedding coordinator there and she is the best at her job. Not only is she professional and wonderful to the couple, she is great to work alongside. We become part of her team and together focus on making the couple’s wedding day the best possible!
7. Nikon or Canon?
That’s easy, Nikon!
8. What is your dream location to shoot a wedding?
We love Paris, it’s our favorite place in the world and shooting a wedding there would be a dream come true. It’s the city of love, so it would be perfect!
9. If you could shoot any celebrity wedding (past, present or future), who would be the lucky couple?
I think John F. Kennedy & Jackie O. were a beautiful looking couple. They had so much style and Jackie O. was so glamourous & classy! Plus they both had beautiful smiles.
10. What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding photographers just getting started?
I think one of the biggest lessons we’ve learned has been to just follow our own path. I think new wedding photographers can get wrapped up in what everyone else is doing, what everyone else is charging, how they are posing, etc. that they begin to lose their identity and the reason they fell in love with wedding photography in the first place. It’s ok to look to others for inspiration, ideas, and mentoring, especially now that there are some amazing resources available. But, you should never give up on your own ideas and dreams just because it’s not the norm. Don’t be afraid to do your own thing. There are brides out there who will love you for it.
