Wedding of the Week – Heidi and Craig Gillespie

Heidi and Craig of Ranfurly, married in a beautiful garden wedding in Wanaka.
When and where did you meet: When I was working on a dairy farm in the Maniototo and had a breakdown and Craig had to fix it.
The proposal: It was a Mickey Mouse proposal because I proposed to Craig as he had taken nine years to get round to it.
I put a little plastic Kinder Surprise pottle with a note on it in his cheesecake that I had made for our romantic Valentine's Day dinner, but then he wouldn't give me an answer.
He told me it was his job to ask me, then he turned around and asked me. I thought he was just being an egg, but no he was serious.
Where was the wedding: In Don and Sally Mackay's beautiful garden in my home town of Wanaka.
Why did you choose the venue: When you see the photos you will see why.
The dress: Off the rack from House of Kavina. I was told by a friend who is like-minded that I would either feel like a truck or a princess and after a very long day trying on dresses it turned out I went back to one of the first dresses I had tried.
The bridesmaids' dresses: Off the rack from Stax. I had a bit of a vision as to what I wanted my bridesmaids in. I went for red (not sure why, as red wouldn't be my favourite colour), long and elegant but simple dresses that complemented the figures of the bridesmaids.
The flowers: Red roses with gypsophila for the girls and the same for myself with a handful of white ones among them. The boys just had simple buttonholes with roses.
The caterers: Albert Town Tavern. My mother grew the pig for our ham and it was fantastic.
Highlight of the day: Having our beautiful 3-year-old daughter walk down the aisle with my bridesmaid Kate and seeing the look on her dad's face (she wasn't meant to be with us, but had been unsettled all morning so my mum brought her to where we stayed and there was no way she was going to leave my side or go to the wedding without me, and seeing the way she reacted when she spotted him.
Your photographer and favourite photo: Our photographer was the awesome and super talented Mischa Clouston. She made everything so relaxed yet happen on time and we had a great time working with her. My favourite photo is the one of Craig and I standing in the gateway having a wee moment of snuggling.
