What makes a good Wedding Photograph?

Concepts and Applications of Professional Photography

Wedding photographers are probably the most creative photographers around, at least in my opinion. They are pressured to capture every single moment that takes place in a wedding, and they need to keep an eye out for those magical moments. Oftentimes, professional wedding photographers will be able to take a single magical moment out of a thousand shots. Companies like Cordare Wedding Photography will have portfolios riddled with these magical moments, and this is what makes a good wedding photograph company. Despite the difficulty that revolves around this particular niche, a lot of people are still eager to jumpstart their wedding photography career.

A wedding photographer is not your ordinary photographer who points his or her camera and clicks on the button like there is no tomorrow. There are a lot of concepts and techniques behind wedding photography, and these are overlooked by both amateur and professional photographers. Wedding photography is entirely different from food photography or sports photography because you only have to capture them with the same perspective. Wedding photography, on the other hand, require you to make use of different angles and perspective to get the MONEY SHOT.
What comprises a good wedding photograph? What are its distinct qualities and traits that need to be there?

  1. A good wedding photographer needs to capture the solemnity and sentimentality of the event, from the ceremony to the reception. The first kiss of the bride and groom, the sharing of the cake and wine, and a dance of the bride and her father, are just some of the most sentimental moments in a wedding. Wedding photographers need to be able to not only capture these moments, but also showcase the emotions that took place during the ceremony. For example, a teary-eyed bride and dad during their dance is a powerful photograph.
  2. A good wedding photographer needs to see the event from a different angle, in a more literal sense. Professional wedding photographers will scout the location for best line-of-sights and perspectives for their different shots a day before the wedding, so they will know where to place themselves during the event. Instead of going for an impromptu angling, professionals will already know what to look for. For example, if you want to get an overhead view of the event, you can stand on chairs or ladders, or from a balcony.
  3. Candid shots are also part of a good wedding photographer’s arsenal. Apart from capturing the solemnity of the event, photographers will also want to take a shot of the people who are enjoying the event. A child’s simple smile in a gown, or the laughter of the newlywed is more than just candid.

A good wedding photograph will have all of these qualities present, and the photographer needs to ensure that they have captured the magical moment of a wedding. While this is not immediately learned on the first day, amateur photographers will continue to develop their skills in wedding photography as they continue their exposure in this particular niche.
