Nadil Khan bringing a different style to wedding photography
Nadil
Khan cannot be found at home on most weekends. While many people are
relaxing at home on those days, this young man is out at work. But for
him these weekend exploits are not considered laborious nor stressful as
he has an intense passion for his work and does it with great style and
flair. Nadil Khan is an acclaimed professional wedding photographer.
Born
in 1982 to a Filipino father and Trinidadian mother, Khan’s
introduction to the world of photography occurred purely by chance. As a
young boy he assisted his uncle, a real estate evaluator, photographing
buildings using a polaroid camera and it was from this initial exposure
to photography that his career was born. He soon developed an interest
in cameras and photography and later applied for his first job at
Ambassador Photo Studio in Chaguanas. While at the studio, he learnt the
art of classic portraiture and wedding photography and went on
assignments using a Minolta X700 film camera. Here the love affair with
cameras and photography developed and is now in its 12th year.
As a professional photographer, Khan brings a totally different
style to wedding photography and this is probably the main reason for
his success so far. He found shooting weddings in traditional ways
extremely boring and wanted to do something very different. In essence,
he wanted to stand out from the crowd and delight his clients. With this
aim he began studying the style of world renowned photographers such as
Jeff Ascough and Marcus Bell among others and started applying some of
their styles and techniques to his work. He also tries tirelessly to
capture the feelings of love, romance, mystery and total passion in his
wedding photos and makes every effort to ensure that those emotions are
both evident and visible in his work. He is a master at securing stolen
glances and tear filled smiles. He has a truly artistic and modern
approach to photography which is ever evolving with each wedding he
does.
His easy going nature relaxes even the most anxious of couples and
spending time with his clients before their big day is paramount. Khan
sets out to tell the story of their wedding with his camera so that in
15 years the couple could still feel the excitement while looking at
their photos. He effectively tries to shoot pictures that will produce
an emotional response from the viewer.
At the age of 30, Khan is one of the most sought after wedding
photographers in Trinidad and Tobago and although he has never shot a
wedding outside of this country, he has done work for many couples from
Switzerland, Hawaii, Ireland, Russia, India, Canada and USA who would
have chosen Trinidad and Tobago as their preferred country to tie the
knot. He is a registered member of Wedding and Portrait Photographers
International and was also judged the winner of the AMPOTT best wedding
portrait in 2007 and 2008.
Instrumental to Khan’s success has been the contribution made by
fellow wedding photographer Stephen Aziz who has provided him with
valuable insights into the world of photography and has become somewhat
of a mentor to him. Providing additional support to Khan has been
associate photographer Shiraz Sultan and Khan’s wife, Angine. Sultan has
been affiliated with Khan for the last six years and brings his own
unique style and creativity which blends with and complements Khan’s
work while Angine provides the finishing touches in her role as prime
photo editor.
Today, Khan already has bookings for weddings to be held in 2013.
